With the support of The Nature Conservancy, The Half Moon Bay Commercial Fisheries Trust and the San Mateo County Harbor District, HMBSMA has been working since 2015 to design and test a fishermen-driven model for recovering for recovering lost Dungeness crab gear and bringing it to shore to return to its original owner.  This work  is an industry driven effort to clean up the ocean, and  to reduce ghost fishing or potential whale interaction after the Dungeness Crab Season. Half Moon Bay is proud to be leading these efforts and helping other ports set up similar programs up and down the California coast.
